about the department
The Department
of Sciences at Mangwana Academy provides a stimulating, inquiry-based
learning experience across Combined Science, Biology, Chemistry,
and Physics.
Under the
leadership of Ms. Fadzai Mhembere, the department cultivates scientific
curiosity, analytical thinking, and real-world problem-solving through the Cambridge
International Curriculum. Our goal is to help learners see science not just
as knowledge, but as a mindset for understanding and improving the world around
them.
Access to
Curriculum and Resources
Students
and parents have comprehensive access to science learning materials through the
Academy’s secure Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
The VLE
offers:
- Cambridge-aligned
syllabuses and revision resources
- Recorded
and live lecture sessions
- Interactive
simulations and virtual laboratory experiences

This
digital learning platform ensures inclusive and flexible access to resources
that support academic excellence.
Teaching and Learning Approach
The
department integrates Cambridge’s inquiry-based approach with innovative
teaching methods that make science practical, engaging, and relevant.
- Simulation-Based
Learning: Students engage in both virtual and physical
experiments to develop core practical skills.
- Real-World
Relevance: Lessons link scientific concepts to everyday
applications, business, and sustainability challenges.
- Integrated
Learning: Projects connect science with mathematics,
technology, and entrepreneurship, encouraging innovation and
interdisciplinary thinking.
- Collaborative
Discovery: Group work and investigations strengthen
teamwork, communication, and research skills.
Career and
Future Pathways
The
Department of Sciences prepares learners for both academic advancement
and career readiness in a wide range of fields, including:
- Health
and Life Sciences: Medicine, nursing, biotechnology, and
environmental studies
- Engineering
and Technology: Civil, mechanical, electrical, and software
engineering
- Research
and Academia: Scientific research, data science, and
education
- Entrepreneurship:
Science-based ventures in agriculture, renewable energy, or healthcare
